About
Our group was set up in March 2007. We are currently in the process of becoming a charity.
We function at two levels. The outdoor learning partnership provides support to volunteers and individual practitioners and the Wilder Woods Forest School delivers sessions for children and young people in a variety of venues including within school grounds.
- The woodlands we use are managed sustainably for wildlife as well as for forestry. We have a Sustainable Travel Policy and travel plans which include encouraging walking, cycling and car sharing.
- We provide a valuable link for young people interested in a career in forestry or related fields. We are a registered provider of the John Muir Award and are developing links to enable us to deliver OCN awards for 14+.
- We have many partnerships with wildlife and environmental organizations and are members of BTCV.
- We operate an equal opportunities policy and involve young people in the delivery of our activities. We welcome volunteers of all abilities and ensure our events are inclusive. We offer support and training.
- We prioritise disadvantaged children and marginalized groups of all ages wherever possible and seek funding to subsidize the cost of sessions for low income families and to expand our provision for different groups in need, including those with disabilities.
- We are registered with Child-Safe and have three trained Child Protection Officers.
- We have access to a number of sites and our leaders are mobile. We are able to set up sessions anywhere suitable, subject to the necessary risk assessments and consents.
- We have access to two small private woodland venues with toilets and shelter for all weather access. One of our sites is wheelchair accessible.
